W March 2008 - Scarlett & Natalie

I was anticipating this cover when I read that Scarlett Johansson AND Natalie Portman would be appearing on it but, I am completely disappointed. To start with, I highly disagree on the wardrobe of this shoot. Maybe it's the obsolete collars or the distracting face print on Portman's top; I can't quite figure it all out. Honestly though, the biggest problem with this cover is obviously Scarlett. Her severe makeup does not work with her features and her face is way too thought out and stiff. Natalie on the other hand looks fabulous. I absolutely love her makeup with the mild smoky eyes, bold brows, glowing complexion and nude lips. Too bad the rest of the cover isn't so perfect. The last thing to my dismay was the decision to put in the dog. Scarlett and Natalie have so much more to them than all the paparazzi crazed stars carrying those pups and thats why I think they have so much appeal. Telling from the description under the two (smart, sexy, serious), it seems as though the magazine was in fact trying to capture their broad appeal but, by putting the evocative dog in there just made me think of the party girls that run senslessly around Hollywood. Conclusively, I very much disliked this cover but have much higher hopes for the next.
